(esp. of a change or distinction) So delicate or precise as to be difficult to analyze or describe.
(of a mixture or effect) Delicately complex and understated.
Such an interesting word. In meaning and pretext. It’s a method and manner that Satan employs so that he can operate in stealth mode (right in front of us) in hopes that his mixture of wickedness, corruptness and deceitfulness will not be noticed; he tries to override perception by injecting himself right into reception.it’s invasive. It’s the simple, subtle things, that if wrong, can bring something to ruin, whether it be the foundation of a house or a man.
A few times this week, the subject of splinters has come up. We all have gotten one from time to time. If left untreated or not properly removed, a splinter can cause incredible infection, discomfort and problems for your overall health, Spiritually speaking, the same holds true. There are spiritual splinters that snag us, jab us, and get lodged way down deep. You can always tell, because there is a sore spot. In life it could be a finger tip, in spirit it could be a certain relationship; dependency or rift. Maybe its an activity that you know isn’t pleasing to God. It could be a habit you’ve formed or some other infraction that you just cant seem to shake. It’s the fly that spoiled the anointment (an old expression which sums it up nicely) and that’s how the evil one likes to gain entry into our lives. Through subtle but destructive acknowledgements. Once he is in the door, he gains full access. Of course, it always leaves you feeling confused, bewildered and in denial (because you bought the lie), surely it cant be true that I asked for this mayhem and havoc on my life? Or did you?….When the subtle suggestion comes, like…”Oh, it’s OK, no one will know”…more than someone knows (already there is you and Satan, besides God being aware of it) so guess whom you signed a contract with in that scenario?YUPP! Not good. He gains access without having to break in, and once he is in, well, when you are not looking, he begins to look for other areas of weakness and other doors to your conscience where you might not have best security system, often, he will convince you to give him access through some lie that he has convinced you of.
These days parents check their children from head to toe, for ticks, for lice for all sorts of parasites that they might have contracted as they are exposed through activities such as camping, school, sports and sleepovers. Why not check yourself and your family for the most deadly parasite of all? What do you do if you locate this interference? “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”(Jas. 4:7)
Jesus refused the devil multiple times: (Matt. 4:1-11; Lk. 4:1-13; I Pet. 2:21-22)
“Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Ex. 23:2).
“Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away” (Prov. 4:14-15).
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil” (I Thess. 5:21-22)
“abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul” (I Pet. 2:11)
ABBA Father, help us to be on high alert for the things that do not line up with your word. There is no room for choosing, accepting or receiving satan’s deceipt. Help us to distinguish his lies over and above your anointed plans for our life. Keep our spiritual flesh free from these splinters. Help us to identify and remove hatred, envy, strife, jealousy, anger, disappointment and frustration. Remind us through your Mercy and Grace that all has been provided for us and that every challenge is an opportunity to learn, to grow or to make room for some other blessing that might be coming our way. In Jesus Mighty name, we pray AMEN!
